Sammy to Buy Sizable Chunk of Sega

It was today announced that Sammy Corporation, which had previously flirted a merger offering with Sega, is now to acquire a 22.4% stake in the company instead. This will set the Guilty Gear maker back a cool ¥45.3 billion - around $421 million.

Sammy will be buying the stake directly from parent company CSK, although Sammy president Hajime Satomi is reported to have told the press he is considering buying an even larger stake. Satomi is likely to take a place on Sega's board of directors once the purchase is completed.

It is no secret that when the planned Sega-Sammy merger failed in May, CSK wasn't particularly happy - and the group still wants the two companies to work together to increase efficiency in several ways.

It's a dark world out there, we only hope that developments like these end up helping Sega - both creatively and commercially.
