Katamari Rolling Into the Sunset
Hankies at the ready. Katamari producer says that the upcoming PSP game is the last in the series.
Sales of We Love Katamari might not have flirted with the top of charts but that did little to dent the diamond-hard reputation the series has built up over the past couple years. Now the series' creators are talking about bringing an end to the acclaimed series.
"The core concept of the Katamari series was complete from the first game, and we cannot really improve on this," Namco's Toshiya Hara, producer of the PSP instalment Me & My Katamari, told 1Up.
"The PSP version was made basically so that the game could be carried around and played on-the-go," Hara said. "So for now, this is where we wrap it up."
The Katamari games have been acclaimed for their simplicity. Players roll snowballing clumps of detritus around, picking up tacks and rats, dogs and cats and just about everything else.
All that's left for the series now is for the PSP debut, Me & My Katamari, to be released Europe, though European publisher EA has yet to reveal any release details other than that it's coming later this year.
