Sony Cuts Back PS3 Tech for Cheaper Model
Thinking of buying the cheaper PlayStation 3 to save a few bucks in the short term? Read this before you make a decision you'll regret.
At Sony's E3 press conference on Monday, the company surprised everyone by revealing that it would have two bundles for the PlayStation 3 when it goes on sale in November. At the conference, Sony made it seem that the only difference was the size of the included hard drive, but further details paint a bleaker picture.
The main model of the PlayStation 3 will sell for $600. This gives you everything that Sony has been promising so far, including a 60 GB hard drive. Should you be pinching pennies, though, you can also opt for a cheaper model that has a 20 GB hard drive and sells for only $500.
What Sony hasn't been as open about is the rest of the stuff you lose should you aim low. Most importantly, in addition to hard drive space, the cheaper model also sacrifices the HDMI interface, which means you won't be able to connect high-definition TVs with the best connector.

Also missing is all support for SD, Memory Stick and Compact Flash cards and that means that you won't be able to transfer media from your camera to your PlayStation 3.
