New Super Mario Bros Stomps Japan
Early numbers from the country bode well for the plumber's latest 2D platforming game.
There's still more than a month to go until we finally get our hands on Mario's first 2D adventure in, well, a long time, which makes it all the more painful that gamers in Japan and North America can go out and buy New Super Mario Bros now. And buying it is exactly what they're doing.
While numbers for North America aren't out yet, early figures from Japan suggest the portly plumber has had his best debut yet. By some estimates, the game sold 480,000 copies on its first day - more than any DS game before it.
At nearly half a million copies, the first-day sales of New Super Mario Bros. dwarf the first-week sales of all previous portable Mario games, and it outdoes his most recent console efforts too.
