MGS5 Role Possible, Admits Kojima
Legendary creator says history might repeat itself.
Hideo Kojima has acknowledged that his lead role on the Metal Gear series may end up continuing, despite his stated desire to hand down the responsibility to younger development staff. We asked him: "Can you really see yourself - say after another ten years - not having directed a fifth game?"
"When we look ten years into the future, maybe yes, I may well end up spending more time on the Metal Gear series," he told us in a new interview published today - his 45th birthday.
In 2001, the Metal Gear Solid creator claimed MGS2 would be his final game, and he said the same thing about MGS3. Now he's saying it again about the phenomenal MGS4. We asked him why fans should believe he won't end up directing a potential fifth game.
Kojima said: "I always intend to stay true to these statements; I do always say what I actually feel at that time, after each Metal Gear, when I say I am going to move on to the next project. But it's like when Hayao Miyazaki says he is not going to do more, and then always ends up doing it."
Kojima also talks about the development of MGS4 and some of his other ideas. Read the full interview here.
