"We Wanted to Call it Blizzard Activision"
Co-founder says you can't win every battle.
Speaking to Kikizo in an interview published today, Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce said that if they had their way, Activision Blizzard would instead be called "Blizzard Activision".
"We actually requested that it be called Blizzard Activision", he laughed, adding: "You can't win every battle."
However, the Blizzard Entertainment VP insisted that he's "excited" about the direction being taken by the merged game publisher, which now rivals incumbent EA as world's biggest games publisher.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King"We still operate pretty autonomously and independently. The Activision leadership is a resource available to us, but there's no mandate that we leverage that to any specific extent", he said.
And, talking of Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick, he told us: "Bobby has been in the business for a long time. He bought Activision in 1991. And he understands the value of the success that we've achieved, and recognises that we've got a franchise that's successful, and doesn't want to mess with that.
He added that Kotick "wouldn't impose anything that we didn't feel was appropriate for the Blizzard brand."
