Those that can be bothered, however, are presented with a game that offers a good deal of depth. The number of play modes on offer is more than enough to keep anyone company for a fair while, and multiplayer options are available for those few of you out there with PSP-owning friends. Patience and the ability to control one's temper reward those that pick up SCT3, that's for sure.

Presentation-wise, things are nice enough. The frontend looks slick, and in-game things look like any other decent looking PSP game - it's nothing to jump with glee about, but it's not offensively ugly either. Which is nice. It also sounds like tennis, which helps a tennis game. Usually.

SCT3 is not a bad game, it's just not worth it with VT3 knocking around. Maybe with more work the inevitable sequel will work better and I look forward to that, but for now I have my tennis god to go back to.

Smash Court Tennis 3 is not recommended to those that own Virtua Tennis 3, unless they are bored of Sega's fantastic effort and have some money to throw about. SCT3 is a decent enough game, but it is hampered by a sluggish control scheme and an overall slow feel to things - the game often feels unfair as a result, and frustration rises its ugly head all too often.

THE VERDICT:
The more patient out there can persevere, but it's a bit of a niche market - PSP owner, bored of VT3, spare money, patient, doesn't lose temper easily. That means there's about three of you out there that can buy the game. Hmm.
