Konami Video Interview: Coded Arms
Our latest interview with Konami Tokyo reveals plenty of behind-the-scenes detail on one of PSP's hottest titles.
After its debut at last year's Tokyo Game Show, Coded Arms for the PSP instantly became a title to watch out for. The futuristic, sci-fi themed first person shooter looked cool - and seemed like exactly what the PSP needed during a pretty weak start to its software line-up.
Coded Arms places the gamer in the role of a computer hacker who infiltrates an abandoned virtual reality system. Originally created as a combat training simulator to prepare for an alien invasion, the VR system was shut down during development after a major flaw was discovered. Unbeknownst to its creators, the simulation program continued to evolve on its own, turning into a vast and brutal VR world populated with virtual alien invaders, dangerous computer bugs and the VR system's own security bots.
Arming themselves with an assortment of weaponry, gamers battle these enemies through the virtual landscape, delving deeper into the heart of the unchecked system.
In our latest Konami Tokyo video interview we get more details from the game's producer, Yasuo Daikai, to learn about stuff like:
- Using the PSP as a device to hack into the virtual world...
- Developing PSP games back when the hardware wasn't finalised!
- How the game's Random Map Generation works
- Weapons, AI, multiplayer and key game features
- Japanese embracing the FPS genre?
- Philosophy of storytelling within FPS
Don't miss it! Our thanks to Daikai-san for his time.
