Kikizo: That must have been the most fun part at least - did you have an office full of women for this?
Uchida: We have some in the office, you know...
Kikizo: Not like secretaries... you know, like cute girls jumping up and down with little stickers on them for motion capture!
Uchida: One of our female developers was responsible for the motion, and she was showing with herself [impersonates movement of breasts] saying, you know, why don't we do it like this with her movement - using her own movement in front of me to express the ideas she had!
Kikizo: Wow! Does the game have a pause function where you can change the camera angle, take photos and that sort of thing?
Uchida: Unfortunately you can't take stills of the screen, but if you're playing the game and a certain action takes place, you can manoeuvre the camera to be where you like. But if you have the camera the way it is in this game, it's a bit more exciting, because we wanted the player to feel that if it could just be rotated that much further, you could see some... you know, details! So that is why we didn't want to include an option like this.
Kikizo: But what percentage of the end-user's time will they be playing the game as a videogame, and what percentage will they be using it in the 'gentleman's way'? Because it's not something that's not happening is it, so what is the perception of the team on the issue?
Uchida: We assume that almost all users will buy the game because they view it as an erotic title or something, just for fun. But even these users will end up appreciating that the game has great balance between the gameplay system and the erotic expression, so it's not just an erotic game. But you can play for fun as well.
Kikizo: In Japan, Tecmo has been involved in a few legal cases about people stripping off the Dead or Alive girls using hacking techniques, is that something you are worried might happen to the Rumble Roses girls?
Uchida: We understood that there are some legal aspects related to it. I am not sure of the exact details but there has been some sort of legal movement. At TGS I encountered the Dead or Alive producer, Mr Itagaki, but we didn't say anything, we just passed in silence!
Kikizo: Are there any plans to make this a long running series, and is its main competition something like Tekken or wrestling games?
Uchida: We don't think there's a competition with other pro wrestling fighting games such as SmackDown, or DOA or Tekken. We have a pretty new concept and therefore we just assume there isn't much direct competition. In fact maybe a user who has purchased SmackDown could then show an interest in this.
