Nintendo Video Interview Summer 2005
Half-an-hour with Shigeru Miyamoto, Eiji Aonuma, Koji Kondo & Hideki Konno for extensive discussion on Zelda: Twilight Princess, Mario Kart DS, Nintendogs and the latest from EAD. Plus, a huge 30-minute Zelda gameplay video.
As the slick Revolution mock-up unit sat enigmatically in a guard-protected room inside Nintendo's E3 booth last month, there were still more questions than answers about what the future holds for perhaps the most innovative games company ever - but this was a publisher whose current-generation software line-up was more than enough of a distraction.
There's no doubt that the new iteration of Zelda, Twilight Princess, was one of the show's highlights, shown off in a spectacular themed area of the booth. It's also the focus of this extensive video feature, which quizzes Nintendo god Shigeru Miyamoto, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma and legendary sound producer and composer, Koji Kondo.
Things move on to talk about connectivity on the evolving DS platform, with more detailed discussions about the forthcoming Mario Kart DS and "Famitsu perfect" Nintendogs, as veteran Nintendo producer Hideki Konno - who's been at the firm since 1986 - joins the fun despite a spot of jetlag.
The interview took place at the Mann Chinese Theatre shortly after (and just a stone's throw from) this year's Nintendo Media Briefing at Hollywood and Highlands. With only a few selected magazines and websites in attendance, this is the first (and, we're betting, the only) time you'll be able to see the whole thing in one compact, super-edited, half-hour video package - in cheekily disguised interview format.
On the agenda:
• In-depth on Zelda: Twilight Princess
• Eiji Aonuma's latest input with the title
• Shigeru Miyamoto's fiery project management style
• The sound and music from legendary Koji Kondo
• Hideki Konno's time at Nintendo since 1986
• Nintendo DS and new details on MKDS & Nintendogs
• Innovation trends that will continue at Nintendo
• Absolutely tonnes more.
The proceedings were flawlessly translated by Nintendo of America talent-oozers, Bill Trinen and Tim O'Leary. We would like to thank both of them and the top guys at Nintendo who made it all possible.
We have also provided an additional, astonishing half-hour gameplay video of Twilight Princess for good measure, with commentary from Eiji Aonuma. Need we say any more?
Enjoy this latest video special - there's plenty more where this came from....
