Molyneux Interview '08: Fable II & Beyond
Our frank interview about Peter's future as a designer, how he misses PC development, Fable II, and fresh chat on the top-secret Project X - formerly known as Project Dimitri.
Update - another exclusive new Molyneux chat here.
Last time was in a Santa Monica hotel. The time before that, it was on a bus journey in Barcelona. Our very first time, it was in his board room in Guildford... caught on video. And a few times in between that - oh, we can't even remember.
Yes, we've never been shy of getting down with world-famous game designer and Lionhead Studios boss Peter Molyneux, fighting off obscure villagers and fire-breathing dragons for sizable chunks of his time - no matter the location or the circumstances.
Most recently, it was on a rooftop balcony somewhere in California, away from the hustle and bustle of other journalists - and more importantly, out of the earshot of his much loved but strict publicist (who is neither an obscure villager nor a fire breathing dragon).
With Fable II ready for October release, you could be forgiven for forgetting that he's had another game - Project X as it's now dubbed, formerly known as Project Dimitri - on the go for at least six years (he first mentioned the game in 2002, and has spoken about it briefly a few times since - most notably to us). However, the project recently experienced a major breakthrough, which you can read about in this interview.
We spent our latest time with Peter to find out about the stuff you've not already heard about in his various summer press touring for Fable II, and of course, to fire off a few outstanding questions about the biggest RPG of 2008.
Fable II promises to be an adventure of self discovery and heroism, with a free-roaming world boasting dynamic seasons and weather, featuring (almost) one-button combat, (almost) no maps and (almost) no cut-scenes. But will it live up to fans' high expectations?
