E3 2003: Capcom Brings GTA to Japan
Gossip reaches us that Capcom are set to publish Grand Theft Auto in Japan - details here.
In a deal apparently made during E3, Capcom will publish Grand Theft Auto in Japan, in return for Rockstar to be granted publishing rights for Red Dead Revolver in currently unspecified territories.
This is definitely a sweet deal for Capcom, as import GTA copies have reportedly been flying off shelves in the East faster than a pixel in F-Zero, regardless of the language barrier created by English text and sound, and could very well generate more piles of cash for the Street fighter and Resident Evil creator.
For those who know nothing, Grand Theft Auto is one of the all-time best selling games on the PS2 console and once it breaks in Japan, possibly of all time across all consoles. I said possibly.
The source was unclear on a release date, but did state a Grand Theft Auto game was being released around Xmas, so that could very well be it. Or something else.
