Sega's Astro Boy: Screens and Videos
Sega's licensing division scores big with brand new Astro Boy videogames for both GBA and PS2. See the screenshots and video evidence for both inside.
Revealed for the first time at last weekend's Tokyo Game Show, the PS2 version of Astro Boy is a fantastic license for Sega to have won. With ambitious President Oguchi-san keen to pick up more licenses, and the firm's European arm embarking on a serious content acquisition trip, this deal with Fuji Telecasting Co. is a positive start to one of SOJ's key shareholder promises.
The PS2 version features the popular cartoon character in what begins as a basic action game, allowing you to run around and throw a few punches. But key events trigger the game to explode into a full 3D, open-space action-fest. The promotional video revealed at last the show revealed Astro Boy flying around some huge citiscapes and battling some impressive-looking monsters - see it for yourself in the video below.
The GBA version, released just before Christmas in Japan, is a scaled-down version of the PS2 outing. The game was playable at the show - a standard action game, but offering some cute features such as Astro's arm turning into a gigantic laser obliterating enemies in his path.
Stay tuned for news of any western release, but don't hold your breath. In the meantime, check out these screens and videos of both versions of the game.
