Donkey Konga: First Screens & Details
Nintendo and Namco reveal the first images of Donkey Konga. Check them out here, along with some general bitching.
A few weeks ago, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata made some intriguing remarks about new Nintendo hardware, hinting at a new concept that would blow the industry away. Later it emerged he might have been talking about Donkey Konga - a rhythm action title developed by Namco and starring one of Nintendo's most famous characters.
Surely not. Has NCL management lost their marbles? This is not something you keep secret and pretend is the next epochal thing in the industry. It looks pretty good. It comes with a drum that you use, they cost about $25 each. But 'new hardware' - not exactly.
Alternatively he might have been referring to IQue, the N64 based console for the Chinese market. But, according to Spong, NCL will be holding a number of conferences in Japan next week, aiming to showcase new hardware and software.
Our bet is on nothing truly 'new' surfacing next week, but perhaps something interesting will happen in April 2004, the date Iwata mentioned when originally speaking of "the big announcement".
Whatever. Here are the first screens from Donkey Konga, a game which also includes a remake of the classic Donkey Kong Jr. The game's out in Japan on December 12. Hopefully someone at Nintendo or Namco will get around to taking some proper screenshots before then.
