VF Cyber Generation: First Footage
Following yesterday's 'Quest' unveiling, take a look at this trailer, which thankfully shows that the entire cast of VF is present.
Here's the first ever footage of Virtua Fighter: Cyber Generation, the RPG adventure game from AM2 coming to PS2 and GameCube next year. Previously known as Virtua Fighter Quest, VFCG shocked Sega followers yesterday when its unveiling pointed to a very loose connection to the VF series, and not much in the way of familiar VF characters.
Today we can reveal that it's not as bad as it might have looked. This cam-captured video footage shows the official trailer for the game, and as you'll see, pretty much the entire cast of the VF series is present in some capacity - with the game's main character, Sei, learning and then performing some of the distinctive moves and throws from the legendary series. Even the same sound effects are in used, which kind of makes you think - the Sega love is here after all!
The Virtua Fighters present, including Akira, Lau, Wolf, Jeffry, Shun, Vanessa, Sarah and Jacky, are rendered in 3D as actual characters in the trailer, although this doesn't necessarily mean they'll be playable in the final game. As reported yesterday, Sei's task is to gather 'treasure' or data from the real world in order to right the wrongs of 'Nexus' - a Matrix-like digital world where everyday life is carried out, and where the evil J6 Syndicate - Dural's creator - causes havoc.
To be frank this footage places VFCG in a much better light than yesterday's unveiling did; the presence of the VF characters - even in this unknown capacity - and the feeling of a genuine Sega shine when you see and hear it, put this AM2 title back on the map - but if Sega wants to avoid disappointing thousands of its most loyal customers after all the hype, it should seriously consider showing what else VFCG is going to offer.
Either way, it doesn't look like being the VF-centric character and storyline-driven game many had hoped for - but that doesn't mean it won't deliver in other ways. Currently the game has not been announced for Europe or North America. Keep it here for everything Sega, first.
