MGS3: Stunning New Screens & Details
Take a look at sixteen stunning new Metal Gear Solid 3 screens of Snake in the jungle - in our special "actually viewable" format! Plus exciting new gameplay details.
Check out these fantastic new images from Konami's forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the third in Konami's most admired of all franchises. Thankfully, series creator Hideo Kojima has been loose lipped of late, revealing some scrumptious new details - all of which he promises will be elaborated upon at E3 in May.
The exquisite level of detail synonymous with the series is augmented with aspects such as long grass blades that part when trodden on, indicating where you (or an enemy) might have set foot. This will be of even greater concern, since Kojima-san is also promising enhanced AI, with deadly enemies who'll be more 'aware' than in the first two games.
Camouflage is an important strategic part of gameplay in this third instalment, set predominantly in the jungle. Snake will be able to upgrade his camouflage kit as he progresses through the game, while data in the top-right of the screen indicates the effectiveness of your outfit for the area occupied.
Another key gameplay aspect is stamina - not exactly a new concept in adventure games - but a feature that promises to be more sophisticated and more integral to the experience in MGS3. Snake will lose stamina as he climbs steeper areas then usual, while removing layers of clothing will affect Snake's temperature, and in turn his stamina too. Eating animals replenishes his stamina much like an energy refill in any similar game, but we'll have to see whether this aspect is more sophisticated as well.
Contrary to what many of us thought, Kojima has also revealed that there will be traditional radars in the game, although there will be more than one - depending on the type of surroundings at a given time.
MGS3 is shaping up to be a brilliant sequel. Expect a lengthy hands-on in the near future. Click here for our previous MGS3 coverage, including videos.
