You're a Star, So Act Like One!
So says SCE Europe, which is bringing the SingStar karaoke title and two USB microphones screaming to your PS2. New "sort of hands on" details & screens!
Sony has been dishing out ultra sweet silver boxed press kits for SingStar, giving us our first sheepish foray into London Studio's karaoke game for PlayStation 2, featuring an impressive list of licensed tracks and music videos.
SingStar, which comes packaged with two USB microphones and is enhanced with the use of the existing EyeToy camera, will be ignighting the UK with Saturday night karaoke fever faster than I can run out of any bar inflicting it.
SingStar offers an engaging, social experience that encourages even the most reticent singer to unleash their inner rock star. SingStar's "groundbreaking" technology analyses the player's vocal skills, based on their pitch, tone and timing as they sing into the USB microphone, and provides feedback based on how well or badly they have sung.
SingStar's expansive track list features a wide variety of well-known songs from world-class artists. Each track is the artist's original recording and SingStar also includes the original music video for many of the songs. Find the complete list of tracks under related articles.
SingStar features three gameplay modes that allow for between one and eight players to join in together. Sing Mode encourages players to simply pick up the mic and start singing, either alone or battling against a mate. Pass the Mic is the ultimate party game, encouraging duets and team competitions; and Star Maker allows budding stars to follow their dream from singing in the bedroom to performing in a sell-out concert for their adoring fans.
The game is set to massively broaden Sony's market in another "why didn't we think of that, J?!" move that targets gamers of all ages - girls, boys, and generally the kind of non-stereotypical gamer SCE has always secretly wanted to cater to.
Here are the latest screenshots from the game. Stay tuned for more, once we get some drunk girls to participate and "review" it for us at a later date.
