John Riccitiello Leaves EA
Effective immediately, the charismatic John Ricitello is no longer President and CEO of EA. Details inside.
EA today announced the departure of its charismatic leader, John Riccitiello.
Riccitiello, who has made personal appearances at most of Sony's E3 Press Conferences over the last few years to demonstrate the dominance his company held in the massmarket videogame sports arena, will remain in some kind of advisory position for a short time, possibly until E3 is through next month - although officially he has left the building, so to speak.
An EA representative told IGN that Riccitiello will be starting a venture capital business focussing on technology and entertainment. So please join an orderly line to take his cash, all you budding entrepeneurs.
Riccitiello has seen three different ways of spelling his name during his time at EA. Today, we're sticking with the "Official EA Press Release" - 2004 version. He has also been one of the most successful executives the "IE industry" has ever seen.
The process of finding his successor is underway - expect it to be announced at a later date. And to come from inside EA.
