VF Cyber: Aweome New Footage & Screens
We reveal hot new details, screens and lengthy video footage from the game formerly known as Virtua Fighter Quest. It looks cooler each time we see it!
Check out this hot new footage from Sega-AM2's Virtua Fighter Cyber Generation, the game formerly known as Virtua Fighter Quest announced in December last year. The game's Japanese release date has been confirmed for July 29, 2004 on PS2 and GameCube - and although no Western release has been announced as yet, we're hoping that will happen at E3, or perhaps sooner.
The new footage reveals a number of visually rich and details new game environments, as lead character Sei traverses the digital universe of Nexus. Learning fighting techniques from all the Virtua Fighter combatants, he must use them in the main game to finally reach the bosses of Judgement 6 - the orignisation that must be taken down to save the real world.
One new scene even shows Sei actually transforming into a VF character in the middle of a combo - in the case Akira - to unleash a deadly Hayykoyou-ken technique, before transforming back into himself to finish the combo.
In addition, Sei can use a pink neon 'laser beam' that acts as a Spider-Man-style rope. As well as using it to access to out of-reach places, he can also use it in Devil May Cry-style 'juggle' techniques - and when combined with the moves learned from the VFers, some really awesome combos can be unleashed.
So what of the storyline? In a not-so distant future, the human way of life is becoming more and more sophisticated and convenient, but could it all be about to take a turn for the worse? This doomsday setting is how the game's story opens. The man-made, floating city of Acopolis used to be an industrial island, but over time has become more and more residential, with houses and schools.
As the civilisation grew and expanded, and as technology advanced, the community couldn't take the pace of the real world, so 'Nexus' was created. Most of every day life now continues to take place in the digital, virtual reality world of Nexus, just like The Matrix. But the servers that run Nexus crash one day, for reasons unknown, leaving the digital world in turmoil.
The RPG adventure game will unfold as Sei plays through the digital cyber world, in an attempt to restore normality with technique data from the real world. People like Sei are known as treasure hunters - sort of like advanced hackers.
Stay tuned for more on Virtua Fighter: Cyber Generation, which we'll be getting some hands-on with very soon.
