Halo 2 Preorders Top 1.5 Million
Could be the biggest 24 hours for a video game title in retail history, Microsoft reckons.
Since its launch nearly three years ago, Bungie's first person shooter Halo has remained one of the best selling games for Xbox. With the release of Halo 2 now only three weeks away, excitement is overflowing. Microsoft announced today that 1.5 million preorders have been placed for the game in the U.S.
"Halo 2 is expected to be the biggest 24 hours for a video game title in retail history and is projected to bring in more revenue than any day one box office blockbuster movie in the United States, " said Microsoft's Peter Moore. "We call it the Halo 2 effect. We've even heard rumours of fan anticipation of the 'Halo 2 flu' on November 9."
The excitement is not bound to North America either. Release day events are being planned for over 1,100 cities across the world, including London, as retailers usher in one of the most anticipated games ever.
Halo 2 is set for release in the UK on 11 November.
