World Wrestling Entertainment on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against its major licensees at the New York District Court. The suit stems from alleged racketeering and bribery, amongst other charges, in the allocation of videogame rights to Jakks Pacific and THQ. WWE seeks to nullify all current rights of the defendants.
"WWE's intellectual property is a valuable asset of the company, " said WWE CEO Linda McMahon. "We believe the actions taken today are necessary to preserve the integrity of our licensing process and essential to ensure that WWE receives appropriate and fair compensation for the grant of a license to use our intellectual property."
In a statement released today, THQ denied wrongdoing: " THQ is committed to preserving its rights under the videogame license with the WWE. THQ believes the WWE is pleased with the manner in which THQ has managed their brand in the video game category." The company also made clear its intention to defend its current videogame rights.
