PS2 Takes Pro Evo Online in 2005
Producer Seabass Takatsuka reveals plans.
While Pro Evolution Soccer 4 for PlayStation 2 was the top selling title in the UK last week, there is one feature sorely missed by fans of the series: online play. In a recent interview with Seabass Takatsuka, producer of the Pro Evolution Soccer series at Konami in Japan, it was confirmed that next year's PlayStation 2 instalment will more than likely allow for online competition.
The upcoming Xbox version, due for release in November does support network play over Xbox Live, but this does little to quell disappointment amongst PlayStation 2 owners. The problem, as it stands now, is one of infrastructure, or more accurately, lack of it.
"We already have PES running in the studio on PlayStation 2 online," said Takatsuka. "So we're waiting for Sony to construct a better infrastructure for PlayStation and also the users be hooked up on broadband. I'm pretty sure we're going to have [online] on PES5 for the PS2."
