FIFA Confirmed for PSP Launch
EA CEO Larry Probst gives the good news.
EA CEO Larry Probst announced Tuesday that when Sony's new handheld, the PSP, launches in North America, EA will have a FIFA Football title ready for release. This brings to six the number of games EA is currently preparing to launch alongside the hardware.
Previously announced launch titles include Need for Speed Underground Rivals, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NFL Street, NBA Street. Probst confirmed these games would also be accompanied by MVP Baseball.
The timing of release, though, is still unclear. In the announcement, Probst mentioned a possible release in North America by March, but conceded that this could slip to April. Sony has been particularly coy regarding launch specifics for the PSP.
Sony has publicly stated a desire to release the handheld in 2004, at least in Japan, but with no launch information available as of yet, analysts predict this is unlikely. Probst did, however, state that EA's two Japanese launch titles are still on track for release by December.
While FIFA Football has not been confirmed as a European launch title, the popularity of the series and the inevitable launch of the PSP in Europe after North America make confirmation a mere formality.
