Sony Shows Off PSP Again
PSP's second public exhibition in Japan.
Sony's handheld was one of the star attractions at the Tokyo International Entertainment Market 2004 show. While the exhibition was largely similar to that of last month at the Tokyo Game Show, the hardware was present in a slightly revised form.
The most outstanding characteristic of the PSP is obviously its gorgeous LCD display. Unfortunately, LCD screens are also susceptible to scratching. To combat this, the PSP will be released with a hard coating over the screen to minimise the effect of rough handling.
The PSP units on display at the show were equipped with this new coating, and general opinion seems to indicate little, if any, effect on the screen's brilliance.
While no new games were on show, gamers in attendance were able to sample some of the PSP's hottest titles, including Metal Gear Acid from Konami, Lumines from Bandai and Sony's own Minna No Golf (known as Everybody's Golf in the UK).
While launch details are still not known, the PSP is expected to ship in Japan by the end of the year, with releases in North America and Europe to follow in the first half of 2005.
