Resident Evil 4 Coming to PS2
Nintendo reeling from another Capcom U-turn.
Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 4 will see release on PlayStation 2 during 2005.
The company's surprise move comes in response to pressure from both customers and stockholders. The game had been scheduled for release exclusively on GameCube, as part of a deal between Capcom and Nintendo.
The GameCube is currently in third place in worldwide sales of current-generation console hardware, behind Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox. The decision to release Resident Evil 4 on PlayStation 2 ensures the game a significantly larger potential market.
Release details for the GameCube version of Resident Evil 4 are not changed by this decision. The game will be released in North America and Japan in January, followed by Europe in March.
Resident Evil 4 for PlayStation 2 is currently set for release in late 2005.
This latest announcement opens the door for a PlayStation 2 release of the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, which is tethered to the GameCube. Capcom has not yet commented on this possibility.
