Ghost in the Shell Follow-Up Signed
Atari and Bandai get Stand Alone Complex.
To follow up on the worldwide success of cyber-thriller Ghost In The Shell, Japanese anime house Production I.G. worked on a TV series called Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Bandai and Atari have announced that they have licensed the videogame based on the show for release in Europe.
"The Ghost In The Shell universe is an incredible setting for a video game, and fans of the anime and keen action gamers alike will find Bandai's Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex a thoroughly absorbing experience," said Atari's Martin Spiess.
"The gorgeous visual presentation and original electronic musical score create a really intense atmosphere, and hacking into the minds of enemies and machines to control their actions adds a thoroughly new and engrossing dimension to the gameplay."
The game allows you to take control of one of three of the show's principal characters - Major Motoko Kusanagi, Bateau, or the Tachikoma spider tank - to thwart an underground terrorist outfit bent on destruction.
Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex is scheduled for release exclusively on PlayStation 2 in March 2005. Manga Entertainment has licensed the broadcast rights for the accompanying TV show in the UK, though precise air dates are unknown at this time.
