The Getaway Black Monday: New Media
Another blokcbuster SCEE title nears release - here is a new video along with screens.
The sequel to one Sony Europe's trendiest and most ambitious titles is a matter of days away - The Getaway Black Monday arrives on European shelves on November 12, with a North American release slated for January 10.
The Getaway has sold an excess of 3.5 million worldwide, so hopes are high for the sequel. Black Monday tells the story of a group of small-time criminals who unknowingly get mixed up in the capital's dangerous criminal underworld. The game again takes place in a detailed and realistic map of London, complete with the city's clogged-up roads and even the congestion charge!
A leap from Hollywood's glamourised portrayal of gangsters, Black Monday is the result of two years research by SCEE into London's terrifying criminal underworld. It's a gritty yet real reflection of what's happening today - such as the influx of new Eastern European organisations running capital and country.
From car chases through the capital's famous landmarks to explosive action on the city's rooftops, backstreets and tube stations - Black Monday interweaves chilling true facts with fiction delivering what Sony promises will be thrilling tale.
The game takes place over a dark 48 hour period, but with a twist - the story weaves three very different perspectives and is unravelled through various crucial plot points to create a sophisticated compelling story.
It's Sergeant Mitchell's first day back on the Met's firearms squad, and it's going to be one to remember after a dawn raid on a council estate turns nasty. But that's just the beginning - the next 48 hours will see him come up against the most powerful and ruthless man in London.
Meanwhile on the other side of the City, Boxer Eddie O'Connor is getting a severe beating; the bank job went horribly wrong, his crew are decimated. Bodies are continuing to drop left, right and centre. His only ally in this whole mess is Sam, a lightweight thief more comfortable with nicking laptops than extreme violence. He knows he's way out of his depth - now his friends are dead and somebody is going to have to pay.
Also integral to the story is journalist, Jackie Phillips. Jackie has been investigating the activities of a criminal gang known as the Thieves in Law. The risks she's taken land her in chilling circumstances and only Mitch can save her life.
From the time we've had with Black Monday to date, back at E3 back in May and also at a recent event in the same real-life boxing gym featured in the game, the title is promising to tighten upon a few loose areas of the original and offer an abundance of new ideas, such as Underground travel. Check out the new video and stay tuned for our imminent verdict.
