Codemasters Readies Racers for PSP
Race Driver and Colin McRae go portable.
Codemasters has announced that two of its current racing titles, Colin McRae Rally 2005 and TOCA Race Driver 2 are in development for Sony's new handheld, the PSP. Both games have a tentative release date of spring 2005.
The Colin McRae series has long provided one of the best rally experiences on consoles, since the series' debut on PlayStation in 1998.
The PSP version, a port of Colin McRae Rally 2005, is being prepared by Six By Nine, the developer responsible for the most recent PC conversions in the Colin McRae Rally franchise.
The game will contain over 30 cars and several game modes, including a career mode and multiplayer via the PSP's wireless networking feature.
TOCA Race Driver 2, which was released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox earlier this year, will also be turning in a PSP appearance.
The game brings with it the full feature set from the PlayStation 2 iteration, including all 15 different motorsport types and 52 circuits.
The power of the PSP means that 21 cars will be on track simultaneously, and the game will also feature wireless 8-car multiplayer.
TOCA Race Driver 2 for PSP is being prepared by Sumo Digital, the UK-based developer that recently did the well-received conversion of Sega's OutRun 2 for Xbox.
Colin McRae Rally 2005 and TOCA Race Driver 2 are both set for release in spring 2005.
