Metal Gear Successor in the Works
Hooray for Kojima's amazing mood swings!
Despite claims from series director Hideo Kojima that Metal Gear Solid 3 would be the last instalment in the popular franchise, it appears that Konami might already be working on Metal Gear Solid 4.
As reported by GameSpot, Konami president Motoyuki Yoshioka told the press at a recent shareholder meeting in Japan that not only is the next game being considered, there are plans to extend the series even further.
"We already have ideas in our mind on what the fourth release will be like," Yoshioka said. "We believe that we can continue to develop [more] titles in the series. We hope that you will support us [in this decision]."
Whether or not Kojima will be involved in the upcoming games is currently unclear.
In interviews conducted in the lead-up to this week's release of Metal Gear Solid 3 for PlayStation 2 in North America, Kojima stated that he would not be involved in another entry in the franchise, and suggested that the series would itself be coming to an end.
The Metal Gear Solid series has proven lucrative to Konami. The franchise was resurrected in 1998 by Hideo Kojima in the form of Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation.
Since then, the series has garnered consistent critical acclaim and popular support from gamers around the world.
