Sony Staring Down Hardware Shortage
Exciting PS2 shortages set to annoy.
If you've been to the local videogame store and noticed that there aren't very many PlayStation 2s lying around, you're not alone.
Retailers across the UK are currently suffering due to a shortage of the new skinny PlayStation 2 model, with sales grinding to a halt.
And with Christmas less than a month away, both retailers and parents are getting anxious that they might be stuck with a lot of unhappy children come the end of the year.
"It will be tight and I expect stores to be in and out of stock throughout December," SCE UK commercial director Kevin Jowett told videogame trade paper MCV.
Jowett did say that Sony is committed to getting new hardware onto shelves as soon as possible, but retailers are worried that they aren't going to get enough.
Christmas is the busiest time of the year for the videogame industry, meaning that the present shortage could not have come at a worse time.
