US Gamers Lap Up Nintendo DS
500,000 gamers pick up DS for Thanksgiving.
Earlier this week Nintendo upgraded its Nintendo DS sales forecast to 5 million globally by March 2005. On Tuesday the company showed why, announcing that the new dual-screen handheld was a hit with American gamers during the week surrounding the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
More than half a million people have picked up the handheld since the its US launch on 21 November, and the company expects to have delivered a million units by the end of the year.
But don't forget about the Game Boy Advance. According to Nintendo's figures, more than 800,000 Game Boy Advances were sold during the past week.
This will set well with Nintendo, which has stated in the past that it wants to have a three-pronged hardware family, with continued support for the new Nintendo DS, the Game Boy Advance, and the "aging" GameCube.
The next stop for the Nintendo DS is tomorrow in Japan, while the European release is set to follow sometime during the winter.
