Mercenaries Wages War on Xbox & PS2
For those recently recruited to infiltrate North Korea, LucasArts has just the game to prepare for the trip.
Mercenaries is a new third-person shooter being developed by Pandemic studios, the same team that worked on the recent military-strategy hit Full Spectrum Warrior.
In Mercenaries, players tackle missions in the war-torn, despotic nation using their finely honed military and technical skills to earn cash rewards - putting a fresh spin on the do-as-we-say military games currently landing on shop shelves.
Gameplay is free-form, allowing players to approach missions however they choose. And the wealth of military hardware - gunships, tanks, hummers, etc. - means that there's room for experimentation.
To prime the audience, LucasArts has put out a dedicated Web site (found at www.lucasarts.com/games/mercenaries) that expands on the plot elements and details the game's armoury.
For an idea of what the final game will look like, have a look at the screenshots below.
Mercenaries is scheduled for release on PlayStation 2 and Xbox in North America in January, with the European release to follow in February.
