SCEE Gets PSP Gets All Fired Up
Online wireless capabilities pushed.
Vehicular carnage and Sony have a long history together, ever since the PlayStation launched with Twisted Metal in the late 90s. Now with the launch of the PSP, Sony is again readying a car combat game designed to show off what the new hardware is capable of.
Titled Fired Up, the game offers both a strong story in the singleplayer mode, which sees you battling a despotic warlord in the ganglands of a ravaged eastern European nation, and fast-paced multiplayer for those times when all you want to do is turn the pain up on your friends.
While several publishers are content to bring over existing franchises, Fired Up is one of Sony's in-house original titles developed specifically for the PSP.
And alongside this, Sony is hoping to use the game to show off the PSP's online wireless capabilities. You'll be able to take part in several multiplayer modes, like the familiar capture the flag and deathmatch modes, with from 2 to 8 players.
The more you progress through the singleplayer parts of the game, the more vehicles will be unlocked for the multiplayer portions.
While there are currently no plans for downloadable content, Sony is hoping to include something like this after launch, which would, for instance, allow you to download multiplayer maps.
Sony is working to have Fired Up ready to launch with the PSP this spring.
