PSP Goes Ape with Ape Academy
Collection of fab mini-games on PSP.
Ape Escape for the PlayStation was the first game to demand that gamers used the Dual Shock controller. With Ape Academy for the PSP, Sony is again turning the traditional idea of controls on its side.
Ape Academy is basically a collection of around 50 multiplayer mini-games. This in itself isn't novel. What's unique is that several of the games allows two people to play the game on one PSP at the same time, using the D-pad and buttons as two sets of controls.
The game also supports the PSP's WiFi connection, so up to four people can battle it out on two PSPs.
And while most multiplayer setups are rather samey, the developers have put a spin on multiplayer in Ape Academy. Tokens are collected while playing through the game, and during match-ups these are used to bet on the outcome, giving multiplayer that extra edge of competition.
Ape Academy is being prepared for launch around the same time as the PSP in spring 2005.
