PSP to Launch in March - Kutaragi
With some kind of official announcement expected in a matter of hours, Ken speaks.
No one doubts the PSP's potential for success. In fact, for most gamers the only question about Sony's new handheld is: "When can I buy it?"
While Sony released the PSP in Japan in early December, the company has been coy about when the rest of the world would get to see it - committing only to some time between January and March.
In a recent interview, Ken Kutaragi, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, clarified the North American release window slightly, telling news service Reuters that "it will probably be March."
Europeans shouldn't have to wait too long either. "We'd like to launch in Europe during March as well," said Kutaragi.
A Sony representative said that the company would be hosting a presentation this week at the 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sony is expected to announce the final pricing and release details for North America at the event.
The PSP has sold well since its Japanese debut on 12 December, edging over the 500,000 mark by the end of 2004. Sony is hoping to have 3 million PSPs available worldwide by the end of the March, but this could be hampered by production problems.
