Mario Gets Into the Revolution
It's not the inevitable news of Mario 128 moving to the next Nintendo machine, but a new tie-up that sees Mario in Konami's DDR.
Not content with golf, tennis, baseball, basketball and - let's not forget - platform games, Mario will soon be dancing to the tune of a different drum - literally. Nintendo has revealed that it is working on a rhythm-action game starring the moustachioed plumber.
Dance Dance Revolution With Mario is a retooled version of Konami's popular Dance Dance Revolution series based in Mario's Mushroom Kingdom. In addition to the regular direction-matching gameplay tuned to Nintendo-flavoured songs, the game will also contain several mini-games.
This is the latest in Nintendo's push to ease non-gamers back in to videogames. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is violently opposed to the encroaching complexity of modern videogames, and through moves such as this Nintendo hopes to broaden the appeal of its games.
Dance Dance Revolution With Mario will be released in Japan this summer. There's no word yet on when - if ever - Europeans can expect the game.
