World of Warcraft Wows the World
Loads shifted and 1/3 playing online.
The Warcraft series has always been popular, but with the shift from real-time strategy to massively multiplayer online RPG in World Of Warcraft it has jumped to another level. As of the start of 2005, more than 600,000 gamers in North America, Australia and New Zealand have already picked up a copy of the game.
What's more, these people are playing the game online in record numbers. Over the recent holiday period, more than 200,000 players battled it out in the game's massive world simultaneously.
Demand has been so high that Blizzard has had to roll out several more servers to make sure everyone has the best online experience. Blizzard is also preparing new features, including special regions where players will be able to battle each other for the spoils of war.
World Of Warcraft is currently in beta testing in Europe and the final version of the game should be released within the next few months.
