Amazon Picks Own PSP Launch Details
UK retailer picks a date and price, Internet reports it as fact, retailer decides to wait like the rest of us.
The UK branch of online retailer Amazon put UK gamers into a tizzy recently by posting unverified launch information for Sony's PSP. Sony has yet to announce when the PSP will be released or how much it will cost, but Amazon has - or at least had - the handheld listed as shipping on 18 March at a price of £179.99.
While the launch date is in line with what's expected, it's the price that irks. The PSP is currently selling in Japan for ¥19,800, or around £100, making the UK price unexpectedly high.
Sony and Nintendo have both stated that they will launch their new portable hardware by the end of March. While Sony has not given any official information yet, Nintendo is hosting a press conference in Paris on 27 January to present the launch details for the Nintendo DS.
Despite this, though, the PSP is already selling well. Amazon lists the handheld as the 24th-best-selling product on its site.
But as if it verify that too many people were putting too much faith in Amazon's launch information, on Monday, the company pulled the page from the site.
