Namco Hides Classics in New Star Fox Game
Arcade classics cunningly hidden within.
Including old games in new ones seems to be the latest thing for video game publishers.
Several recent titles have included old arcade and/or console games as freebies, thereby appealing to both grizzled old-timers barely capable of pushing buttons any more and young upstarts with no attention span. Nintendo and Namco are the latest companies to jump on the teeming wagon.
According to reports from IGN, Star Fox Assault, a new third-person shooter by Namco starring Nintendo's furry Star Fox cast, will include three decades-old Namco arcade games as hidden bonuses - namely Xevious, shooting game Star Luster and the tank-themed Battle City
Of the three, 1982's Xevious is probably the best known. The vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up was released in the arcades, on the NES and most recently as a part of the NES Classics line of games for the Game Boy Advance.
Star Fox Assault is on track for release on GameCube in Europe this winter.
