GameCube Gets Ghost Recon 2
Online mode, however, gets the axe.
There's a definite sense that the world is standing on the edge of a precipice, which inevitably leads to current affairs seeping into entertainment. See for example Ghost Recon 2. The game, newly announced for GameCube, is one of several set in that hotbed of political and military antagonism, North Korea.
As Captain Scott Mitchell, leader of the Ghost Recon Special Forces unit, your task is to infiltrate a near-future North Korea where an attempted coup is underway. Succeed and freedom lives on for another day; fail and the world is plunged into nuclear winter.
The GameCube is usually not the place for gritty games such as this, but Ubisoft feels confident that it will do well in its current form. Ghost Recon 2 was already released late in 2004 on Xbox and PlayStation 2. The game has lost its online components during the conversion to GameCube, but everything else, including the new over-the-shoulder view and the high-tech military gear, seems to have survived.
Ghost Recon 2 will be released for GameCube on 31 March.
