Sonic Speeds to Top of UK Charts
Need For Speed Underground finally pushed aside.
After 10 weeks in the No 1 position, Need for Speed Underground 2's record-breaking stint at the top of the UK sales chart has come to an end.
Last week saw this year's first decent batch of new releases and it was Sega's Sonic Mega Collection Plus for Xbox that finally managed to knock EA's racer off pole position - proving in the process that retro gaming is not to be dismissed as a passing fad.
The only other big new entry was EA's UEFA Champions League 2004-2005 at No 10, while newcomers MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf and Shadow of Rome flirted with glory just outside the top 10.
It was a disappointing week for NCsoft, though, as its comic-themed massively multiplayer online RPG City of Heroes floundered in 32nd position despite earlier success in North America and a concerted in-store promotional campaign.
Here are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 5 February as determined by Chart Track:
- Sonic Mega Collection Plus (Sega)
- Need For Speed: Underground 2 (EA)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar)
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run (VU Games)
- The Incredibles (THQ)
- FIFA 2005 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (Konami)
- Sonic Heroes (Sega)
- Football Manager 2005 (Sega)
- UEFA Champions League 2004-2005 (EA)
