Atari Wants You Back in the Matrix
And this time you can actually play as Neo.
The Matrix came out of nowhere in 1999 to dazzle audiences worldwide with its groundbreaking special effects and messianic man-vs-machine story - and everyone had high hopes when the two follow-up movies were announced.
These didn't do as well at the box office but the accompanying game, Enter the Matrix by developer Shiny Entertainment and Atari, sold more than 6 million copies, despite middling reviews. Now that things have had a chance to settle out, Atari and Shiny Entertainment are going to give it another go.
The Matrix: Path Of Neo will give gamers the chance to play as lead character Neo, unlike Enter The Matrix, which cast you as one of two side-characters to the trilogy's story. Atari's new game will follow Neo through the entire trilogy and features elements written by Matrix creators Larry and Andy Wachowski.
"The Wachowski Brothers have created a universe that is uniquely deep and rich, with virtually limitless creative possibilities, and the interactive space is the ideal world in which to explore them," said Jim Caparro, president and CEO of Atari.
"With The Matrix: Path Of Neo, the Wachowski Brothers will be giving their legions of fans the best of everything: the first chance to personally relive Neo's journey and the chance to experience new adventures they cannot yet even imagine."
The Matrix: Path Of Neo will be released for PC, Xbox and PlayStation 2 this autumn.
