Star Wars: KOTOR II Tops the UK Charts
Jedi lightsaber-fest beats down WoW's orcs.
Swords and lightsabers dominated the UK videogame scene last week as LucasArts' Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords took the top spot in Chart Track's ranking of best-selling games. Thanks to the added sales of the PC version, the game managed to outpace World of Warcraft, the latter having pulled in the best opening of an online-only game in the UK.
World of Warcraft has been a sales phenomenon across the globe, with VU Games having to scale back distribution in the US to avoid overloading the servers hosting the game's persistent world. The game also had the best opening week of any Warcraft game in the UK and sold 280,000 copies in Europe during its first 24 hours in shops.
The new entries at the top of the chart pushed Sega's Sonic Mega Collection Plus retro package down to the third spot, but the spiky blue mascot did manage to edge out both Need for Speed Underground 2 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the second week in a row.
This week also marks the first time since the game's release in November that Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4 has not made it on to the top 10 list.
Here are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 12 February as determined by Chart Track:
- Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (LucasArts)
- World Of Warcraft (VU Games)
- Sonic Mega Collection Plus (Sega)
- Need For Speed: Underground 2 (EA)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar)
- The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (THQ)
- UEFA Champions League 2004-2005 (EA)
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run (VU Games)
- The Incredibles (THQ)
- FIFA 2005 (EA)
