GameCube Owners Get Down to Gaming
New study says Nintendo gamers game longer.
Have you ever sat around wondering just who is playing games more often? Surprisingly, it seems that GameCube owners are getting the most out of their pastime by spending on average about two hours per day playing games.
Research conducted by US market research company Phoenix Marketing International on the gaming habits of 50,000 American households showed that those with video game systems play games for about 13 hours per week.
And, despite the ubiquity of the market-leading PlayStation 2 and second-place Xbox, it's GameCube-owning households that are putting the most time into gaming.
This is heartening for publishers, who are facing a slowdown in game sales relative to previous years. The study suggests that even though not as many games are being bought as in the past few years, gamers are at least still playing games.
According to David Pluchino, one of the researchers behind the study, the data show that people are not hanging up their controllers for good.
But why, then, would gamers not be buying more games? Pluchino proffers a succinct solution: "They may just be bored with what is currently available."
