Tony Hawk Underground Grinds on to PSP
The long-running skateboarding game heads to Sony's new handheld. Screens and details inside.
In 1999, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater took the industry by storm and rejuvenated extreme sports in the process. Later this year, the newest instalment in the series makes its way to the PSP in the form of Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix.
Like its console counterpart, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix slaps together the series' trademark gameplay with a strong story element featuring rivals skate gangs led by skate-god Tony Hawk and Jackass star Bam Margera.
The PSP version is much more than just a simple port, though, and features a host of new gameplay elements. The most important of these are four new cities - Atlanta, Kyoto, Las Vegas and Santa Cruz - that have been created specifically for this new version, bringing the final city count to 13.
The game has also been designed to make full use of the PSP's wireless networking capabilities. Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix features 10 different multiplayer modes that can be tackled with up to three other people within WiFi range.
Character customisation has always been a big part of the Tony Hawk experience and it's back in a big way in Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix. What's more, thanks to the PSP's ability to link to your PC, you'll be able to download an image of yourself to create a custom character that looks exactly like you.
Activision has confirmed that Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix will be available on the PSP's launch day in Europe, but according to Sony that day is still some months away.
