Cars Crush Zombies in UK Sales Charts
Resident Evil 4 does well, but not well enough to unseat the reigning chart leader.
Capcom's Resident Evil 4 had the best opening weekend for a GameCube game in nearly a year and a half and the fifth-best start overall for any game on Nintendo's console, but it still wasn't enough to break into the top four on the latest UK sales chart.
Riding on the back of a relentless advertising campaign, Sony's Gran Turismo 4 stuck it out in first place for the week - despite sales dropping by as much as 50 per cent from its debut weekend. The entry of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 at number three on the chart, meanwhile, proves that World War II still has legs as a video game setting.
And with only a few other new titles reaching UK shops last week, the familiar cast was left to switch and swap. Sales for Nintendo DS games took a predictable downturn, as the hunger of rabid early adopters was sated. Super Mario 64 DS continues to dominate its handheld counterparts, but overall sales for DS games on the whole were significantly down.
Nintendo does, however, find itself in the fortunate position of not having to be too concerned about the post-launch DS release lull, as Sony continues to avoid nailing down launch specifics for the PSP.
Here are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 19 March as determined by Chart Track:
- Gran Turismo 4 (Sony)
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (Ubisoft)
- Championship Manager 5 (Eidos)
- Resident Evil 4 (Capcom)
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Konami)
- The Sims 2: University (EA)
- Super Mario 64 DS (Nintendo)
- Mercenaries (LucasArts)
- Rugby 2005 (EA)
