Bono Battles SCi for Eidos
Well, not Bono himself, you see, but the American investment company he's part of.
Tomb Raider publisher Eidos has seen some hard times of late and investors have responded by pulling out, leaving the company in a precarious financial position. But a white knight has appeared in the form of Elevation Partners - a US-based investment firm that counts U2 vocalist Bono and ex-EA president John Riccitiello among its members.
Elevation announced earlier this week that it wants to buy Eidos, sending the company's stock soaring. This comes at a good time for Eidos, which has been punished by the market for game release slippages and worse-than-expected sales of several important games.
However, the Elevation takeover isn't a foregone conclusion since UK-based SCi - publisher of the recent Constantine movie tie-in - has put in a rival bid for Eidos. The only sure thing right now is that Lara Croft will soon find herself taking orders from a new bunch of people.
