FIFA Street Dominates the Charts
EA's arcadey football game proves to be a big hit.
Gran Turismo 4 may have been the game to beat for the past two weeks, but it was EA's FIFA Street that came out on top in the latest UK sales charts. Riding on the back of a prominent in-store demo campaign, the rejigged footballer pushed Sony's road warrior down to second place.
It was a good week for new releases as well. Timesplitters 3: Future Perfect, from the ex-GoldenEye developers at Free Radical, debuted in fourth place, while Capcom's devil-liscious action game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening stylishly pirouetted into the fifth position.
If there was every any doubt that GameCube game sales are suffering due to a lower installed base, it was removed by the sharp drop experienced by Resident Evil 4. Despite coming in as the best-selling GameCube title for the week, Capcom's survival horror game fell to 19th place in the All-Formats chart.
Nintendo DS sales are also suffering - the latest chart sees only two titles reaching the Top 20 (Wario Ware Touched! at No 20 being the second one). There is currently little on the horizon for the new Nintendo DS either, meaning that Nintendo is slowly losing the momentum built up around the launch of the handheld.
Here are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 26 March as determined by Chart Track:
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Gran Turismo 4 (Sony)
- Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (Ubisoft)
- Timesplitters: Future Perfect (EA)
- Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (Capcom)
- Rugby 2005 (EA)
- Championship Manager 5 (Eidos)
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Konami)
- Super Mario 64 DS (Nintendo)
- The Sims 2: University (EA)
