FIFA Streets Ahead of Splinter Cell
EA's fancy footie title proves to be Sam Fisher's undoing.
Reviewers called it a middling game of rejigged football but that proved to be good enough for gamers in the UK who again picked up EA's FIFA Street in droves - keeping it at the head of the latest charts. It's not as if the public could ignore it though, since EA has been relentless, pushing FIFA Street with in-store and TV campaigns.
The only new game to enter the Top 40 was Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which debuted at No 3. Sales were split 2-1 in favour of Xbox over PlayStation 2, as those who could made sure to pick up the better-looking version of the stealth-'em-up on Microsoft's machine.
This week marks the first time since the launch of the Nintendo DS on 11 March that no DS games made it into the Top 10. It wasn't much better for the GameCube either as after just two weeks Resident Evil 4 failed to make it in to the Top 40 - despite being hailed as one of the best entries in the long-running series. The game should see more success in the UK when it arrives on PlayStation 2 later this year.
Here are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 2 April as determined by Chart Track:
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Gran Turismo 4 (Sony)
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Ubisoft)
- Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 (Ubisoft)
- Timesplitters: Future Perfect (EA)
- Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (Capcom)
- The Punisher (THQ)
- Rugby 2005 (EA)
- The Sims 2: University (EA)
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Konami)
