Cars Crush Lego Jedi in UK Charts
Even the Force wasn't strong enough to overcome the power of Rockstar's lifestyle driver.
After four weeks at the top of the chart, FIFA Street was booted from its perch by a rejuvenated Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, which took the top spot in its second week on sale. It wasn't easy for the lifestyle racer though, as the block-based Jedi-fest Lego Star Wars came in just behind, with less than 500 sales separating the two.
Doom 3 is sticking it out in the top 10, coming in sixth this week and boosting its figures enough to make it the second fastest selling Xbox game ever, behind Halo 2. Another Xbox-exclusive game, Jade Empire, came in at No. 7. Bioware's latest game opened strong, but not strong enough to match the opening performance of its spiritual predecessor, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords.
The real story isn't shown in the top 10, though. With little in the way of new releases, game sales in the UK have dropped dramatically over the past weeks. The most recent numbers show that sales are down 40% from the peak seen in the middle of March.
The top 10 games in the UK for the week ending April 23rd, as determined by Chart Track, are given below:
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (Rockstar)
- Lego Star Wars (Eidos)
- FIFA Street (EA)
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (Ubisoft)
- Gran Turismo 4 (Sony)
- Doom 3 (Activision)
- Jade Empire (Microsoft)
- World Snooker Championship 2005 (Sega)
- Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 (Ubisoft)
- The Punisher (THQ)
